Andy why don’t you have your parents help you open a joint savings for now? I think you need to be 16. Interest on an account varies from bank to bank.

I know in TX they just came out with a teen checking product. Go to your local branch and check and see if they have it in your market. Your parents will still need to be there to open the account though.

I used to work at Wells Fargo. Technically, you have to be 18 to get your own account without your parents, however, Wells Fargo is obsessed with opening new accounts, and their reps are under constant pressure to open new accounts any way they can. People that work there go as far as opening BS accounts for their brothers and sisters just to meet their goals. With this in mind, there is probably a rep out there who will be willing to waive this requirement as long as you have some sort of regular income, to ensure you wont be in the red. its worth a try.
