I mean, I understand the concept of building credit and everything, but what is the point of student credit cards? What is the purpose? I’m sorry if this is a silly question, but I don’t really get it.

And can you trade them in after you’re no longer a student for a “real” credit card? Do people just keep them forever? I always thought closing accounts lowered your credit score?

Greatone76 asked:

I could use the help of potentially reworking my mortgage to be more affordable. It is possible for me to get by without doing so. If I do call my mortgage holder and rework my mortgage for a reduced interest rate or reduced principle how does that affect my credit score?

I’ve opened a few credit cards lately, but don’t plan on using them, only for emergencies. Will just having 4 or 5 credit cars available for my use somehow hurt my credit score, or credit in general for future loans I might want?

msc44 asked:

I want to get a frequent flyer credit card but I already have 3 credit cards with generous limits. I don’t need these credit cards and I would like to cancel them and have this “possible credit” to go towards the new card. I heard once that canceling a credit card has a negitive effect on your credit score. Is this true? If so, how do I switch credit cards and avoid affecting my credit score in a bad way?

Hello. I have a great credit score as of now, but things will certainly change once I fall to foreclosure on my home. 1) Will I lose my existing credit cards? 2) Will I be able to get new ones?

Also, does anyone know how many points you lose with forclosure?
Thank you.

I know having too many is not good for a person’s credit score and looks bad to those checking this credit. But not having any credit (such as cards) is not good either. So is it best to have more than one card?

Is it better for your credit to have several credit cards with moderate limit, or one card with a high limit?

I have zero debt. I also have several credit cards. I am wondering how it will affect my credit to request the highest limit for each card, or if I should cancel all but 2 and have those with high spending limits. Along the same lines, how does “available” credit affect one’s credit score negatively or positively? If I get a $50,000 limit on a card (with 0 balance) but say, go to buy a car, will I be denied because I have too much credit out there?
